What does a Solo IP address
have to do with Your Site?

Some people are not aware that they need their own IP address to be successful in the Search Engines. The host you have right now probably has you set up with 200 other websites and possibly thousands on the same server IP. If you purchased Shared Hosting, you are sharing your IP address.

If your neighboring sites have a history of causing trouble for search engine spiders, then the search engines can and do prevent their spiders from visiting any site with the same IP address. You could be penalized even though you're innocent of such nefarious schemes.

Simply put... you're guilty by association because the IP address for that service is the same as yours.

They keep this record, just in case a website needs to be banned for spamming.

Of course none of the engines will admit this fact but it is much simpler to ban the IP address of the offending site then to try and ban the submitter himself. There are ways that the submitter can mask his identity or change his own IP address using fake ones. Its a ruthless procedure but it is the only sure fire way of them knowing that the site will be out of their database for good.
